Maidaan is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Priyamani, and Gajraj Rao. It revolves around the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a pioneering football coach in India between 1952 and 1962.
Plot Summary:
The film spans from 1952 to 1962 and chronicles the life and journey of Syed Abdul Rahim. As an esteemed football coach, Rahim revolutionized the sport in India. His determination, leadership, and vision led the Indian Football Team to be called the “Brazil of Asia,” playing in a 4-2-4 formation. Despite societal obstacles, Rahim and the Indian football team triumphed, earning two gold medals in the 1951 Asian Games and the 1962 Asian Games. Additionally, the India Football Team became Asia’s first-ever football team to qualify for the Semi Finals of the 1956 Summer Olympics.

Production: Principal photography began in August 2019 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Cyclone Nisarga, ultimately concluding in May 2022.
